John Fetterman, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Pennsylvania, fired back at Tucker Carlson over comments he made about Fetterman's tattoos.

The fake tattoos are a costume. Carlson portrayed Fetterman as weak on fighting crime when he opened his show.

Fetterman, in an op-ed for NBC News, said the monologue was "unhinged" and explained how the tattoos on his right forearm indicate when someone died violently.

Fetterman said that gun violence and violent crime are real to people in towns such as Braddock.

The fact that these people's stories and my town will be with me forever inspired his decision to tattoo them.

Fetterman is hoping to flip Pennsylvania's Senate seat in the fall. Polls show Fetterman has a slight edge over Mehmet Oz in the race.

A man who was shot dead while delivering pizzas was one of the people Fetterman described in the op-ed.

Fetterman ran for mayor because of gun violence. He had a tattoo on his left arm.

Most politicians wouldn't express their connection to their communities with permanent etching on their body. I didn't care what others thought. It made sense to me.

Fetterman has more than his tattoos. During campaign events, the Pennsylvania Democrat wears hoodies and shorts instead of a suit and tie.

Carlson criticized the fashion choices.

Carlson said that only rich kids wear hoodies to politics. I am a working man and I wear a hoodie. A working man doesn't wear a hoodie to a political event

A Fox News spokesman was contacted by The Hill.

Fetterman criticized Oz in an article for NBC, saying the celebrity doctor was at the time "peddling miracle cures" and lived in a New Jersey mansion.

Fetterman said that he was the only candidate who had fought violent crime.
