  • There have been five deaths at the Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County in the past year.

WBTV reported that a Wyoming man died while in jail.

The man turned himself in on August 29 after being charged with his second drunk driving offense.

He called his family members every day while he was in jail. His appearance on video calls worried his family more and more.

Family members noticed that he was avoiding eye contact while on the video call.

He was already defeated after we talked to him on the 10th. Miranda Smith told WBTV that her father's face was black.

He passed on a bad message when he spoke with his mother.

If he doesn't come home, he loves you. "I want you to know how much I love you," Anna said.

He told his family about his time in jail.

He said his ribs were broken. It was difficult to exhale. He had not had a bowel movement in over a week. Smith said that he was calling for help.

A Wyoming County Sheriff's deputy visited his mother last weekend and told her that her son had died after being taken to a hospital.

Smith told her children he would be fine.

I don't know how many people are out there. They are owned by someone. Smith said that his father was someone.

The Register-Herald reported that five people have died in the last year in the Southern Regional Jail.

There have been four deaths at the jail in the last year. Kyle Robinson died in his cell. John Lewis Jarrell died in jail after being there for a week.

Less than a day after entering the jail, Quantez died. Richard Wriston passed away a day after entering the hospital.

The West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has custody of the body. An autopsy will be conducted by the family.

Insider did not get a response from the West Virginia Department ofCorrections and Rehabilitation.

A spokesman for the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security told the Register-Herald that his death was under investigation.

Any type of death is referred to a law enforcement agency who will investigate.
