The deaths of two pilot whales in Australia on Friday brought the death toll to 200.

Most of the two hundred and thirty people who stranded at the Macquarie Heads have died, according to the AP.

There are a lot of whales in the same place.

According to The Guardian, pilot whales live in a family of about 30 individuals, but sometimes coalesce into a large group of hundreds of strong individuals.

The guys eat squid. They could have gone to the shore. The post-mortem investigation will include that.

We'll be looking at what the animals have been eating. "That might offer up some additional clues."

Current priorities are to remove and dispose of the carcasses that weigh more than 4,000 pounds.

Two years ago, the largest mass whale stranding occurred in the same harbor.

Almost 500 pilot whales washed up on the western coast of the state in 2020.

The entrance to the harbor is often shallow and dangerous.

The largest mass stranding of whales was in 1918, when over a thousand pilot whales came to the Chatham Islands.
