dahmer

Dahmer is a serial killer.

Netflix

One of at least a dozen looks at the notorious serial killer across media, but this one is probably the highest budget and most viewed, and it has a mouthful of a title.

Ryan Murphy collaborated with Evan Peters of American Horror Story to play Dahmer. Fans of the show gave it high marks and critics gave it low marks.

  • At present, Dahmer currently has a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 87% from audiences.
  • It has a rather high 8.5/10 on IMDB from fans as well.

One issue is the state of television reviews, in which 50% is acquired from just ten total critics, which seems rather absurd given that this is the most watched show in the world right now. Not more than ten outlets can give it a score. It seems very odd.

I think I should score my own review here now that I have done it. I think I'm on the positive side. I don't know ifliking the series is the right word, as it's pretty unnerving to watch, but I think it's well-acted by everyone involved, and the show does a lot of work to maintain the focus on the victims He's portrayed as a monster, but also as an asshole, especially in his post-arrest era, where he enjoys his own celebrity.

The series raises an ironic point about Dahmer and his family making money off of his story, money which is eventually ruled to go to the victims. Dahmer is being used once again to draw in audiences due to the shock and horror of his actions, as evidenced by the fact that he is being watched on the biggest streaming service in existence. Even if there is a focus on the victims, that still isn't a good thing. We have so many serial killer shows and movies that this is not a new problem. It is addressed directly in the show this time, and it is also being critiqued.

I don't know why the show is popular with audiences. It is a well-made production and Evan Peters has a lot of fans. There is no debate about whether or not Dahmer gets a second season. We will wait until the next high profile telling of this story, which is sure to happen.
