According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Mattingly told the team that he will step down at the end of the season.
Heyman thinks it's time for a new voice in the locker room after Mattingly left.
In seven seasons as the manager of the Miami Marlins, Don Mattingly has gone 437-583. He was the manager of the team that finished second in the NL East in the 2020 season.
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins in the Wild Card Series.
The Marlins have been at the bottom of the NL East since Mattingly took over, while the other teams in the division have made progress.
The 63-89 record is the fourth worst in the NL. In the last two years, the team has not won more than 67 games.

Mattingly has done everything he can with a team that is stuck in a rebuilding process. One of the lowest payrolls in Major League Baseball is maintained by the owners of the Marlins.
Mattingly was the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2011 to 2015 and made the playoffs three times.
