O'Rourke stood by his decision to confront Abbott about gun control.

At the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on Saturday, he criticized Abbott for attending a political event hours after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary, which left 19 children and two teachers dead.

He didn't show up in Uvalde until the next day, when he said it could have been worse.

O' Rourke interrupted Abbott and other high-ranking Texas officials at a press conference a day after the May 24 tragedy.

You aren't giving us anything. He said that you said this was not predictable. When you don't do anything, it's completely predictable.

Insider previously reported that the mayor of Uvalde called the congressman a "sick son of a bitch." O'Rourke was kicked out of the building and reprimanded by Abbott for his lack of support to ban the rifles.

The Democrat said that he was standing up for the families who were impacted by the shooting by doubling down on his stance against the weapons.

I don't think I'm regretting being there. I wanted to help those families in Uvalde. Raising the age of purchase for an assault rifle to 21 years is the best way to stop the next school shooting, according to O'Rourke.
