The Utah Senate race is one of the most competitive statewide races in recent memory, with Republican Sen. Mike Lee holding a narrow lead over Evan McMullin.

According to the latest Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll, Lee got the support of 36% of respondents, while McMullin got the support of 34% and 13% chose another candidate. According to the results of the survey, 16% of respondents were undecided.

The race is largely unchanged with Lee leading McMullin 37% to 34% among likely voters.

The survey had a margin of error of 3.43 percentage points.

According to the director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, a lot of moderates are still not sold on giving Lee a third term in Washington, DC

The most interesting aspect of the poll is who the undecided voters are, moderates and liberals. Evan McMullin needs all the moderates and liberals he can convince, but those groups are in a dilemma.

The Utah Democrats passed over a nominee from their own party in favor of McMullin. McMullin won 22% of the statewide vote and held Donald Trump below 50% of the vote in one of the most Republican states in the country when the Democrats endorsed him.

McMullin told NBC News in July that he wouldn't caucus with either of the major parties if he were elected to office.

McMullin has been able to remain competitive with the incumbent despite the Republican's financial superiority.

Lee has raised $7.9 million and had nearly $2.5 million in cash on hand, while McMullin has taken in over $3.2 million and had over $1 million in cash on hand.

In the last Deseret News/Hinckley poll, Lee held a lead over McMullin.

There has been an increase in the number of voters who are undecided in the latest results.
