The team announced in a press release that Tony La Russa wouldn't return to the manager's office this season.
Doctors have told La Russa not to manage again in 2022. He's been out since late August with a heart ailment, and after undergoing additional testing and medical procedures over the past week, it was decided he shouldn't come back.
It's unclear if La Russa will manage the White Sox. The team underachieved this year due to injuries to key players.
The WhiteSox are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs, having lost their last four games, including three in a row to the Indians.
Last season, La Russa came out of retirement to return to Chicago and lead his team to the playoffs. One year remains on his contract.
The Hall of Fame manager gave details of the procedure to the AP. He said he was thankful to have had the issue.
La Russa said that health is nothing to worry about. I flew to Arizona because I have had my physical there since the '90s. It's just a question of regaining strength after they fixed it.
Luis Robert was placed on the injured list with a wrist injury which has been bothering him for over a month.
Right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly was put back on the family medical leave list. Banks was also sent to Triple-A.
