Thanks to agreements with American Express and Chase, Marriott Bonvoy has a large collection of credit cards. It can be hard for people to decide which card is better.
I wanted to take a closer look at the Marriott business credit card because there are a few personal credit cards to choose from. The card has a limited time welcome offer and this is a good time to pick it up.
Marriott has a business credit card. Is this card a good investment? The welcome bonus, annual fee, and many other things are discussed.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card will give 100,000 bonus points if you spend $4,000 in the first three months. Bonvoy points are worth $700 if I value them at 0.7 cents per point.
There are a lot of restrictions on eligibility for this card.
The welcome bonus isn't available to people who have had a credit card from American Express
The welcome offer is not available to those who apply.
Amex business cards are easy to be approved for for people with good credit. It shouldn't be difficult to be approved for this card even if you haven't gotten many business cards before. Make sure you're aware of that.
All major credit card application restrictions can be found in this post.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex has a fee. Adding additional card members is free.
The Bonvoy Business Amex has no foreign transaction fees so it's a good option for purchases abroad.
One of the great features of Amex cards is access to Amex offers, which allows members to save money on purchases at all kinds of retailers. If you can get as many Amex cards as possible, you can get these offers.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card has some bonus categories that may be useful for your business spending, but overall, this isn't a credit card that I'd recommend using for most of your business purchases. Business cards that offer more points are more popular.
Bonvoy points can be used for spending at Marriott hotels around the world. This will be a good bonus for businesses.
If I valued Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each, that would mean a 4.2% return on hotel spending. I like to use the Chase Sapphire Reserve for my Marriott hotel spending as it offers 3x Ultimate rewards points.
There are bonus categories on the Marriott Business Card that give 4x Bonvoy points.
It is a good return on spending, but not amazing when you consider the other cards out there. There are cards for restaurant and gas station purchases.
2x Bonvoy points are offered by the Marriott Business Card. I don't think 2x points per dollar spent is compelling since I think there are better cards for everyday spending
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card has a number of perks that are more than offset by the yearly fee. It is possible to pick up the card for the perks and not spend a lot of money on it. Some of the benefits the card has to offer.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card is worth it on an ongoing basis because it gives you a free night award every year on your anniversary, valid for a one-night hotel stay at a property costing up to 35,000 points.
It is possible to top off these awards with up to 15,000 points to stay at a more expensive property.
One of the main reasons this card is worth having is the free night certificates. Even though Marriott is the largest hotel chain in the world, everyone can find themselves in a situation where this could be useful. I redeem this certificate at hotels that cost more than $250 a night.
Gold elite status is offered by the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card. 25% bonus points, 2PM late check-out, enhanced wi-fi, a room upgrade subject to availability are some of the perks this offers.
You can get 15 elite nights per year just for having the Marriott Business Amex. You can only get this benefit once on a personal card and once on a business card.
You can earn up to 40 nights if you have one business and one personal Marriott card.
It's more doable to get Platinum Elite status if you get complimentary breakfast and suite night awards.
If you have a personal card, you only need to earn an additional 10 elite nights if you have a Platinum Elite card.
If you don't have the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card, you won't be able to earn 30 elite nights a year just from credit cards.
There is a Marriott room rate discount on the card. If you log into your Marriott Bonvoy account as the primary cardmember, you should see the rate listed.
I don't think you should be excited. This rate is usually 7% off the standard flexible rate, and not the lowest rate you can get. You will often find cheaper rates.
This is something to be aware of, but not something I would use often.
Is the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card a good choice for your business? I wouldn't use this as a primary business credit card for purchases. The card doesn't have a rewards structure for business spending
I think the card is worth applying for and I think it is worth having the card for its perks. The annual free night award is more important to me than the card's annual fee, so I think it's a good reason to get the card.
How does this compare to Marriott's personal cards, and what other business cards should you consider?
There are two Marriott credit cards: the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card.
Which card should you choose if you are trying to make a decision? The value is different in a number of ways.
I would get the personal card for a long time since you still get the free night award. You need to be eligible for a Chase card to be considered.
It would make sense to have both cards so that you can get 30 elite nights each year to get Platinum Elite status.
The ink business preferred credit card is the best business credit card out there. The card has a great bonus that is more valuable than Marriott points, a reasonable annual fee, and more.
This is a great business rewards card.
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card is a good choice for a business card. There are 15 elite nights toward status and an annual free night award that are great value.
The card is more valuable now than it has been in the past.
