The report states that Starlink users in the United States and Canada have seen a steep decline in their download speeds due to congestion from more and more people using the service.
The report states that "starlink speeds decreased in every country we surveyed over the past year as more users sign up for service." In the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and New Zealand median download speeds dropped between 5 and 54 percent.
The median download rate for Starlink in the US dropped from more than 90 Megabits per second in the first quarter of the year to less than 60 in the second. In Canada, Starlink's download speed went from 97.4 Mbps to 75.72 Mbps.
Some of the hype around the service is due to the fact that it is a consumer oriented package meant to bankroll more ambitious ventures by the Musk-led space company.
The Starlink service in Puerto Rico and Mexico was faster than the service in the US and Canada.
As PC Gamer notes, these drops in Starlink download speeds come as more and more people are using the Musk-fronted satellite internet company.
One user on the r/Starlink subreddit wrote that they've been on since the test. "It worked great at the beginning, but now they oversold the cells and we have peak hours for all of the usable internet hours."
The user said that he no longer recommends Starlink to others.
A user wrote in a post that Starlink's download speed dropped to just five Mbps, much lower than the 60 Mbps threshold that one can adequately stream and game.
The company keeps throwing satellites up into low-Earth orbit. It might solve some of the congestion on the ground if the sky gets too crowded.
