A puppet representing a 10-year-old Syrian refugee is visiting New York City this week.

The Walk is an international art and advocacy project by the Handspring Puppet Company. The pilgrimage began at the Syrian- Turkish border. She has traveled more than 5,000 miles across 12 countries, representing the journeys of children fleeing violence, war, and other forms of persecution, in order to raise money for childhood education.

The General Assembly of the United Nations will take place in New York City in September. She was one of the notable women leaders honored at the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards. Climate activistVanessa Nakate, journalist Zahra Joya, and health advocate Dr. radhika Batra were next to her.

Observers are encouraged to listen to the "Voice of Brooklyn" project if they want to learn more about the area. Many immigrants themselves are shown in the five audio stories.
