It can be difficult to pick a movie for the whole family. Most of the time children's movies are only for the young ones, leaving little to entertain adults. There is a risk of a movie being too much for little children. Both animated and live-action movies can be enjoyed by anyone.

15 of the best family-friendly movies include everything from action-packed adventures to uplifting emotional dramas to animated wonders. Nobody has to compromise now.

1. Paddington (2014)

It's rated: P.

If there is a movie that will make anyone laugh, cry, and wear a big goofy smile, it is Paddington. Paddington is not merely a movie for kids with a few jokes to entertain the parents, nor simply one appropriate enough for the young ones to watch, it is a splendid story made for anyone with a big heart.

After fleeing an earthquake in the jungles of Darkest Peru, an adorable orphan bear named Paddington (voiced oh-so- wonderfully by Ben Whishaw) goes to London to find himself a family. A kind but hesitant English family takes him in for one night, setting off a series of wacky mis adventures as the bear searches for a new home and tries to escape the clutches of Nicole Kidman. Paddington is a story about acceptance and embracing difference and it doesn't force that message in a cloying or domineering way. As sweet as the marmalade he loves, and as earnest as its eponymous bear, it's the perfect family movie.

Paddington is now available on the internet.

2. Monster House (2006)

It's rated: P.

The one spooky old house on the block that you never dared to walk past, with legends of ghosts that got passed around from kid to kid, is a memory that almost every child has. The 12-year-old D.J. lives across the street from a house in Monster House. The cranky old Mr. Nebbercracker yells at the kids who walk on his lawn. When the old man dies of a heart attack, D.J. and his friends begin to notice strange things at the house. It could be... alive.

A delightfully fun haunted house movie, one with genuinely spooky thrills, a playful sense of humor, and a whole lot of visual flair. It's rare to see a director bring a strong visual style to a movie for kids. If you want a Tim Burton-esque animated adventure for Halloween, you will be happy.

3. Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

It's rated: P.

The 2004 movie based on the Lemony Snicket books may not be the best one, but it is still an entertaining one. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is the fourth book in the children's series.

After their parents die in a fire,Violet the inventor, Klaus the avid reader, and their baby sister Sunny are sent to live with the menacing Count Olaf, a thespian who is scheming to steal their fortune.

The Baudelaires are brought to the screen with action and suspense, but it is also very much the Jim Carrey show. The actor has a comedy that is high-energy and also very funny. The Lemony Snicket series is a good way to keep your family interested.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events can be watched on the internet.

There is a movie called "P-13".

Harry Bradbeer made a movie about a 16-year-old sister of a famous detective. Enola is given the chance to solve a mystery in this tale. When her mother goes missing, Enola sets out to find her but soon discovers a series of hidden clues that reveal a larger story.

The young and feminist spin on the old detective genre can be found in EnolaHolmes, a tale full of clever clues and quizzical riddles, but with a youthful and feminist twist. Parents who have watched Fleabag will find something unique to enjoy here as well, as Bradbeer, who directed the series, brings that same commentary to Enola. It makes the family adventure full of mystery and romance even funnier.

5. Spider-Man (2002)

There is a movie called "P-13".

2002's Spider-Man is a superhero movie that is bursting with goofiness and kid-like spirit. The first Sam Raimi Spider-Man film is a must-see for any kid who loves the web slinger and anyone who likes the silliness of comic book heroes.

The PeterParker origin story is silly in the best way possible. There's a campy villain who looks like he's jumped right off the comic page with his Power Rangers-like suit, a romantic comedy with one of the most famous movie kisses of all time, and a campy villain who looks like he's jumping right off the comic Spider-Man is a wrestler. Peter is testing out his powers by shouting up, up, and away. You get it.

It's rated as G.

Sara is sent to a boarding school in New York City when her father leaves to join the British army in World War I. Sara was forced into child labor by the headmistress of the boarding school after bad news came about her father. Sara entertains the other schoolgirls with fanciful tales and holds on to the optimistic beliefs her father passed on to her.

A Little Princess is a beautiful and moving story about finding optimism and joy in the midst of pain. This movie is my earliest memory of watching a film as a kid that made me cry yet filled me with a sense of warmth and hope, and that kind of mature children's movie is rare these days. Alfonso Cuarn brought a realistic story grounded in deep emotion and is sure to stay with you for a long time.

10.  A Cinderella Story (2004)

Cinderella might have needed a 2000s makeover. It's absolutely not. It's a wonderful example of early aughts pop culture. Hilary Duff is the classic princess from folklore and this time she is called Sam. She lives in Los Angeles and works at the diner owned by her evil stepmother. It is indeed perfect. This came out in the peak of One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls era, and Chad Michael Murray is a prince. A Cinderella Story is a great example of a classic fairytale that can be enjoyed by any child.
