9:57 PM ET

Cole and the Yankees manager were thrown out of the game for arguing with the plate umpire about a called third strike.

Cole's 1-2 pitch to Alex Verdugo, which in replays appeared to be low in the strike zone, was called a ball and his next pitch, a 100 mph four-seamer, was drilled over the right-field fence for a solo home run.

Cole was thrown out by Knight after screaming at him as he was walking off the mound. At that point, Knight was thrown out of the room, as well as an angry Boone, who was arguing with Knight in support of his starter.

It was the most ejections by a manager since Bobby Cox in 2007, and it was the ninth of the season.

Cole has given up 31 home runs this season, the most in the American League and second most in all of MLB, behind the Washington Nationals.

Cole finished the game with 8 strikeouts, giving him the second most in a single season in Yankees history. He is only four punches away from breaking Ron Guidry's franchise record.

Harrison Bader was credited with a stolen base after a wild pickoff attempt allowed him to reach third. The tying run was scored on the next pitch. Jonathan loaisiga worked around a pair of one-out singles in the ninth to get the win.

Judge is one home run shy of Roger Maris' American League record and was held without a home run for the third straight game.

The Yankees reduced their magic number to five in order to win the division.
