A few weeks ago it was rumored, but now it's official, Lake Como will be getting a luxury points hotel.

Basics of the new Lake Como EDITION

There are plans to open a 145-room EDITION hotel in Italy. Marriott's modern premium brand is called EDITION. Think of it as a modern take on Ritz-Carlton, aimed at a younger crowd.

The Britannia Excelsior Hotel on Lake Como will be undergoing a significant renovation and will be renamed as EDITION. The property used to be a 19th century inn on the western shore of the lake.

When the hotel was a five-star property, it marketed itself as a three-star property. The hotel will have less rooms as it previously had more than 200 rooms.

Bain Capital and Omnam Group will own and develop the hotel. A floating pool, multiple restaurants and bars, and a lively lobby bar are expected at the EDITION.

It’s nice to see a Lake Como luxury points hotel

It's a high-end destination. There are some Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties that can be booked through the Hyatt collaboration, but that comes with a lot of restrictions.

There are many top hotels in the area. There are less than a dozen five-star hotels in the area, with the only major hotel brands being a Hilton and a Sheraton.

Most other hotels in the area have less than 100 rooms, but the Lake Como EDITION has 142 rooms.

Il Sereno, Lake Como

Bottom line

There will be 142 rooms in the Lake Como EDITION. The Britannia Excelsior Hotel is going to be renovated before it reopens as an EDITION hotel. Marriott Bonvoy members will be able to earn and redeem points.
