In the latest move to organize workers, a major airline union said Friday that it has the support of roughly 3000 fleet service staff at JetBlue Airways.
The association will apply for a union vote with the National Mediation Board. Baggage handlers are part of the work group.
There are three major work groups at the New York-based airline. The pilots and flight attendants are members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. It happened during a wave of union votes.
According to annual company filings, more than 80% of employees at the budget airline Spirit Airlines are represented by unions, which is more than half of the total number of employees at the company.
The union said there was enough interest in the workers to conduct a union representation election.
The airline didn't comment on the statement.
The majority of airline workers are represented by unions.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA launched a union drive of the Atlanta-based carrier's flight attendants. Flight attendants have previously refused to join a union.
