Judge Raymond Dearie is asking for assistance in getting through the documents seized by the FBI.
The retired judge was nominated at a cost of $500 an hour.
The bill will be paid by Trump, who requested a special master.
The special master appointed to look over the files seized in the FBI's Mar-a-Lago raid is calling for more help.
Dearie wrote in the filing that he wouldn't be seeking additional compensation for his work as a special master. The FBI took 11,000 documents from Mar-a-Lago and he wanted to hire an assistant to help evaluate them.
The documents must be reviewed by November 30.
The FBI seized a number of classified documents during its raid on Mar-a-Lago. The Espionage Act is one of the federal laws being looked into by the Department of Justice.
Dearie asked that Orenstein be paid $500 an hour.
Dearie was the Chief Judge of the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The former president's legal tussle with the FBI over the seized documents led to Trump appointing a third-party neutral investigator. The costs of appointing the special master are being paid for by Trump.
The expenses incurred in hiring Orenstein will be billed to Trump every month. The former president will be given an outline of the hours worked and expenses to be paid back.
After resolving potential disputes, Trump's team will have seven days to dispute the amount and another seven days to pay the costs.
Failure to make timely payment will be considered a violation of the Special Master's order subject to sanction according to the filing.
The team of Trump has been at odds with Dearie.
The former president's legal team appealed to Dearie to not give them information about the documents that were found at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump baselessly claimed on Wednesday that he could have declassified top- secret documents if he thought about doing so.
Dearie asked the Trump team to prove that the FBI planted evidence at Mar-a-Lago.
