According to multiple reports, Pierre-Paul is signing with the Ravens on a one year deal.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheetIt's a 1-year for JPP, who visited Baltimore twice and now lands there officially. https://t.co/1IRmXH1IGY
The contract is worth up to $5 million.
Pierre-Paul had 31 tackles, three for loss, 2.5 sacks, five quarterback hits, and a forced fumbled in 12 games in the 2021. He had not posted more than seven sacks in a year.
Pierre-Paul had an injury that hampered him throughout the year.
Jason Pierre-Paul @UDWJPPI'm barely getting any sleep with this shoulder injury. I've had my share of injuries, but this one by far the worst of them all. I already broke my promise to myself, so I'm gonna thug it out until I can't!
Jason Pierre-Paul @UDWJPPI’m not asking for sympathy, I'm just letting y'all know what it feels like to deal with a torn rotator cuff, but I’ll be fine. They can't do it like me!!!
He told reporters in October that he had had a lot of injuries and knew how to fight them. Football is what it is. I came in great shape. I have to battle this out like every other injury I have had. The shoulder isn't feeling well. The finger is split in two. I still have to protect myself, even though there isn't much of it as it is.
Given Pierre-Paul's age, mounting injury history and waning production, it's reasonable to question whether his best football is behind him. The three-time Pro Bowler, two-time champion and 2011 first-team All-Pro selection has had a heck of a career.
Baltimore would seem to agree with Pierre-Paul that he has something left in the tank.
Za'Darius Smith's decision to back out of a reported deal with the Ravens and sign with the Vikings left the team with Odafe Oweh and Justin Houston as the top options off the edge.
The Ravens needed another pass-rushing option and Oweh is a promising player. A big question mark for the Ravens will be if Pierre-Paul can stay healthy and consistently get after the quarterback.
