Ben Simmons explains his 'passed-up dunk' vs. the Hawks (1:36)

Ben Simmons was going to dunk the ball in the playoffs, but he decided to pass to a teammate. There is a time and a place for it.

Ben Simmons said in an interview that many within the organization didn't support him as he struggled with his mental health during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers.

I was in a bad place where I was trying to get here and you guys were throwing everything at me. Simmons told Redick on "The Old Man and the Three" that he was only after assistance.

I didn't feel like I got it from my teammates or the coaches, but there were some great guys that reached out and were still my friends.

Simmons was part of the trade that sent James Harden and Paul Millsap to the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons didn't play for either team during the 2021-22 season due to a back injury and he wanted Philadelphia to trade him after the 2020-21 season.

Simmons said that he didn't feel like himself during his time in Philadelphia.

He told Redick that he tried to do the right thing by trying to get back on the court, but he was kicked out of practice by Doc Rivers because he was a distraction. He was suspended for his actions.

Before practice, I talked to Doc. I was not prepared. I'm not prepared mentally. Simmons said on the show that "please just understand that" I tried to let him know, but he said he was going to put you in anyways. I'm okay. I was told to go in. I stared at him. It was one minute into practice and Ben got in.

No one is doing that. You are doing this for a reason. I felt that way as well. Everyone is trying to get me. I'm fined for not lifting weights, but I'm one of the strongest people on the team. I'm being fined for little things. It wasn't really a big deal. I didn't handle things the right way and the team didn't either.

Simmons, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft and one of the league's top defenders, reached a settlement with the Philadelphia 76ers to get back some of the money he was not paid.

Simmons said he didn't care about money. It isn't about the money for me now. I want to live a happy life. If it costs me to be in a good place, so be it. Peace is more important than money.

He will be ready for the start of training camp with the Nets later this month.

It's going to be really bad. Simmons said on the show that he couldn't wait. I'm so happy. I got a new jersey. I'm excited to see it. I believe we have a special group. We are going to be the champion if we get it all together. The end goal is that.
