Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is facing a season-long suspension from the team for his role in a consensual relationship with a female staff. There is a code of conduct in Boston. The job description of the female in the alleged relationship isn't known. An official announcement could come out as soon as today that Boston assistant Joe Mazzulla is likely to be the Celtic's interim coach.
As of Thursday morning, the Celtics had not commented on Udoka's status. Udoka was an NBA assistant with the Spurs, 76ers, and Nets before getting his first NBA head-coaching opportunity in Boston last year, leading the Celtics to the NBA Finals but losing to the Warriors. The Celtics will play the Hornets and Philadelphia in the preseason. Boston and Milwaukee are the favorites to win the title.
Udoka is an actress best known for her role in The Fresh Prince of Bel- Air and the movie Boyz n the Hood. They got engaged in 2015. Udoka hasn't appeared in any of Long's posts since May, when she praised Udoka for being a finalist for the NBA's Coach of the Year Award. The boy is 10 years old.
If the identity of the Celtics' female staffer is correct, Udoka's actions wouldn't be the first high-profile relationship between a coach and team executive. Jackson and Buss were dating when Buss was the executive vice president of business operations. After her father's death, she became president of the Lakers. Jackson was the Lakers' coach from 1999 to 2011.
