Minkah Fitzpatrick was still on the field after practice ended on a hot day.

The on-field portion of the training camp had ended but the safety still had work to do. He worked with a staffer to catch as many balls as possible.

The defensive backs coach says it all the time. Fitzpatrick sweated as he said we have to have a 100% catch rate but we catch less passes than the receiver.

It's important to get as many catches as the receiver does. It is important to get used to securing the ball.

He stood over his shoulder from his left to his right.

Fitzpatrick isn't always happy. He arrives early and leaves late to return to the football field and the practice facility. He is the kind of leader the Steelers need in the wake of T.J. Watt being injured.

For the Steelers to survive at least a monthlong stretch without Watt. Fitzpatrick will have to be a focal point as a leader and a ball hawk in order to create splash plays in the defense.

Minkah is a serious competitor. He wants in all the time. He would like to cover the receiver. He wants to tackle runners. He would like to hit. He plays a sport. He's a football fan. There is never a down day with him, and he is a good guy to have in an environment like this because of his love for competition. He cares about it. The man is always ready to work.

Fitzpatrick has delivered from the moment the team gave up a first-round pick to get the Alabama player. Fitzpatrick, who won two national titles in three years, was thought to be the anchor of the secondary, the next iteration of feared defensive players like Troy Polamalu. He picked up five in his first seven games that year.

He has been with us since the day we acquired him, and he is a big-time player. He was talking that week.

Fitzpatrick's responsibilities shifted as he stopped the run. He had a career-high 124 tackles.

The Steelers wanted to put Fitzpatrick in position to return to his ball-hawking ways in 2022.

The top score each week will get $15,000. It's free to play. Pick your favorites.

Teryl Austin said that guys like him wanted to be great. He sees the game quicker than a lot of people. I've worked with many people, but Ed Reed was the best. Austin was Reed's position coach when he was with the Ravens.

Those guys are great because of their unique trait. We need to get him to get the turnovers.

Fitzpatrick is doing that in the first two games of the season.

On the second defensive play of the season, Fitzpatrick read Cincinnati's quarterback and leaped in front of the receiver. Fitzpatrick picked off the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. He was able to force overtime by blocking an extra point attempt. He baited Mac Jones into throwing over the middle to DeVanteParker, who appeared to have an advantage over Robert Spillane. Fitzpatrick jumped to intercept the pass.

Fitzpatrick's ability to play all over the field is one of the reasons he is such a threat. He was most effective in that role in Pittsburgh, despite initially resisting it.

Fitzpatrick said he felt like when people knew where he was, they either chose not to go there or they schemed something away from him. I think moving me around to different positions to give the offense a different look.

Fitzpatrick is quiet in the locker room. Fitzpatrick is one of the team's most prolific trash-talkers, but in his day-to- day life, he keeps to himself.

Fitzpatrick always comes in with his bag and his notes ready to write, according to Najee Harris, who was Fitzpatrick's teammate at Alabama. He's invested in football for a long time. He is always here later than me.

Fitzpatrick is a self-proclaimed competitor. According to Harris, the most impressive thing about Fitzpatrick is his dedication to his craft.

Fitzpatrick doesn't think being a perfect football player is bad. I think I learn from my mistakes. I don't pay much attention to them.

Is that correct? I hold myself to a high standard because people hold me to a high standard. They looked at me on it.

Even if he isn't an elected captain, he's a natural leader. Cornerback Levi Wallace, who played with Fitzpatrick at Alabama and is one of his close friends, voted for Fitzpatrick to be a captain.

Wallace said that everyone knows that he is one of the leaders on the team. We are aware of who he is and what he does for the team. He doesn't have to speak a lot. His actions are the focus. A guy who pushes you without trying to push you. You want to work harder because he is.

The goal is to fill the gap left by Watt. Fitzpatrick could be in line for a major individual honor if he keeps playing at the 2014–2018 2014–2018 2014–2018.

"They're going to play great, great players, they're going to go out there and play great, that's what they're going to do, they're going to go out there and play great, that's what they're going to do," He will put his best foot forward. He's going to be up in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year if he continues to have games like he did against theBengals.
