Robert Hardman, a royal historian, spoke to People about the late monarch's relationship with Prince Harry.

The author of "Queen of Our Times: The Life of Queen Elizabeth II" thinks the monarch would have wanted the couple to reconcile.

It would have been one of her dearest wishes that the family patch things up, he said.

The relationship between Harry and the royal family has been strained since they stepped back as senior royals in January 2020.

In the interview, they said that members of the royal family made racist remarks about Archie, that Kate was made to cry at her wedding, and that the king cut the couple off financially.

Prince Harry made an effort to highlight that he remained close to his grandmother in the years leading up to her death, despite the tension between the Duke and duchess.

After his interview with Winfrey, Harry stated that his grandparents were not the royals to make racist comments about Archie, and that they spoke to the Queen on the phone. The Queen's family nickname was Lilibet.

There have been signs that the Queen's "dearest wish" may come to pass in the days following her death.

After the death of the Queen, the new Prince of Wales invited Harry andMeghan to join him and Kate in a walkabout.

In his first address as monarch, King Charles III sent love to the couple and he made an exception for Harry to wear his military regalia at a vigil for the Queen.
