Donald Trump and three of his children have been hit with a fraud lawsuit after a New York investigation into their family business.
They lied about the value of real estate in order to get loans and pay less tax, according to a new report.
The Trump Organization is accused of committing many acts of fraud.
The lawsuit was dismissed as a witch hunt by Mr. Trump.
Three of the former president's children were named as defendants along with two executives from the Trump Organization.
New York Attorney General Letitia James brought the lawsuit after three years of investigation.
Her office doesn't have the power to file criminal charges, but it does refer allegations of criminal wrongdoing to federal prosecutors and the IRS.
"With the assistance of his children and senior executives at the Trump Organization, Donald Trump inflated his net worth to enrich himself and cheat the system," Ms James said.
According to her, Mr Trump's apartment in Trump Tower was one of the properties that had their values misrepresented.
No apartment in New York City has ever sold for that much.
The 222-page document contains allegations.
The attorney general stated that white collar financial crime is not a victimless crime.
When the well- connected break the law to take in more money than they are entitled to, it reduces resources available to working people, to regular people, to small businesses and to all tax payers.
The former president and his children should not be allowed to serve as officers or directors in New York businesses.
She wants the Trump Organization banned from buying or selling real estate there for five years.
At least one offer to settle the civil investigation into the company's business practices was turned down by Ms James.
Ms James was branded a racist by Mr Trump on his website.
"Another witch hunt by a racist Attorney General, Letitia James, who failed in her bid for Governor, getting almost zero support from the public," he wrote.
The Trumps accused Ms James of pursuing a political vendetta after she said before being elected attorney general that she would file a lawsuit against Mr Trump.
Donald Trump Jr. accused Ms James of using her office to go after her political opponents.
While Mr Trump won't be on the ballot in November's elections, he's still stoking speculation about another run for the White House in four years.
During an interview with the attorney general's office, Mr Trump refused to answer questions. Ms James said that he invoked his Fifth Amendment right multiple times.
According to Ms James, Eric Trump did the same in 2020.
The lawsuit against Trump University could take a year to go to trial according to a lawyer who worked on it.
The trial could severely restrict Mr Trump's ability to do business in New York and make money from his real estate holdings in New York. It could make it more difficult for him to raise capital and maintain credit.
It could be terrible for him.

According to prosecutors, the value of an apartment in Trump Tower in New York was overstated due to the fact that it was larger than it actually was. There was a record sale in the tower.
The Mar-a-Lago club in Florida was worth as much as $739 million. According to the attorney general's office, the real value was closer to $75 million.
The vice-dean at Brooklyn Law School said that Ms James's announcement that she would pass the findings of her investigation to other law enforcement agencies was an ominous signal.
She said that the New York attorney general went one step further. It made a referral to federal law enforcement authorities for a criminal investigation after it filed a civil complaint.
One of the legal issues the former president is facing is a lawsuit.
The FBI searched his home in Mar-a-Lago as part of an investigation into his handling of classified records. In Georgia, he is being investigated for his involvement in trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
He denied any wrongdoing.
A federal appeals court ruled that the justice department can review classified documents that were taken from Mar-a-Lago.
While a court-appointed official decides if any of the records are covered by attorney-client or executive privilege, federal investigators were ordered to freeze their investigation.
