Moore was fired by the Kansas City Royals. John Sherman said at the news conference that general manager J.J. Picollo would be in charge of the baseball operations.

Moore was the lead baseball executive for the Royals when he took the job. The Royals won the American League Championship in both of the last two years. The franchise's second World Series title came in the second year.

Stars from the championship team like Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas and others moved on to other teams after the Royals embarked on another rebuild. The Royals lost over 100 games in both of the last two years.

The Royals were expected to take a step forward this season, with several prospects reaching or approaching the majors over the last couple of years. Instead, Kansas City spent most of the season transitioning the roster to younger players, often fielding lineups with six or more rookies.

The decision to part ways with Moore was made because of a new organizational voice.

Sherman said that Picasso will bring a new approach to baseball operations. As we continue to build and develop our team, I look forward to working with J.J.

Picollo is in his first year as the Royals' general manager after serving in various roles under Moore. Picollo replaced Moore as general manager in September. According to the team, he will be the general manager.

Moore worked in the Braves organization for more than a decade before joining the Royals.

Sherman said that there was a gap between where they were and what they expected.
