Steroids are bad for brain health, according to several studies. It was unbelievably bad.

As it may go without saying, it doesn't feel very far off that the athlete-favored steroids used for muscle building and athletic performance might result in some anger issues, as they're basically just synthetic testosterone bombs. Steroids have a history of side effects related to the nervous system. The range of cognitive and behavioral problems linked to both anabolic-androgenics and their regularly prescribed glucocorticoids, however, is shocking, not to mention concerning, and signals that we may have a lot left to learn about how hormones build and communicate to our brain.

Both types of steroids have different effects on the brain. They work with different groups of hormones.

The steroids have been linked to low empathy, violence, and poor decision making. A study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that people with a history of steroid abuse were more likely to engage in deviant behavior. They had a lot of rage issues and were more likely to engage in risky behavior. This was just a behavioral study and not a study of what happens in the brain to cause those effects.

Depression, anxiety, mania, and delirium are some of the effects of long-term consumption of anti- inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and steroid drugs. The medical establishment has known about these side effects for a long time. A study that was published in the British Medical Journal last month may explain why some long-term users of the drug experience certain symptoms.

That is worrisome. The researchers behind the study were able to link long-term prescription steroid use and side effects to abnormal brain structure and the decline of certain parts of the brain. Though it's compelling enough to warrant further study, the research has some limitations.

The study states that both systemic and inhaled glucocorticoids are associated with a reduction in white matter integrity.

While not necessarily a fool-proof argument, it is easy to blame individuals for engaging in the use of muscle-maxing steroids. The known behavioral risks of glucocorticoids are not taken into account. We may need to find new ways to treat allergies and asthma if further study on brain abnormality related to long-term steroids use is any indication. The brain-to-endocrine-system connection could be revealed by more research.

All steroid users deserve some sympathy. Sport steroid users are encouraged to get on the juice because they compete for the same things. People do a lot of sports. What is it worth for an athlete? A person's mind is very important.
