Black Women's Equal Pay Day is two months later this year than it was a year ago because of the wage gap. While the burden of achieving equal pay remains on leaders, policymakers, and people in power, the author suggests strategies for Black women to fight the gaslighting that so often accompanies self-advocacy.

The uncomfortable truth is that being offered less than we deserve started way before any of us first got a paycheck. One of my earliest recollections. My best friend looked at me and said, "Lola, I don't like Black people, but I like you." I accepted what was offered after I said thank you. I was 5 years old.
