Donald Trump, the Trump Organization and his children were sued by the New York Attorney General on Wednesday, accusing them of committing repeated and persistent acts of fraud.

The fraudulent documents were approved at the highest levels of the Trump Organization, according to James.
According to the lawsuit, there were more than 200 false and misleading valuations of assets, including for his apartment at Trump Tower and his Mar-A.
James accuses Trump and his associates of violating civil and criminal state laws related to fraud and issuing false financial statements.

The lawsuit states that Trump and his associates may have violated federal fraud laws. If federal prosecutors and the IRS decide to take up the case, Trump could be charged in federal court as well.

The office opened a civil investigation into the Trump Organization in March of this year after Michael Cohen testified to Congress that Trump had lied about the value of his assets in financial statements for personal gain. Her office had found evidence of alleged fraud. The investigation has been fraught with conflict as Trump and his children have fought subpoenas to testify in court and Trump was held in contempt of court and forced to pay $100,000 in fines before he complied with the subpoena. Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights when he was deposed by the AG. The New York Times reported last week that the AG's office had turned down a settlement offer from Trump's attorneys, paving the way for her to file a lawsuit against him.
The Trump Organization is being investigated by the Manhattan District Attorney. The Manhattan probe has so far not resulted in any charges against Trump himself, though James said her office would refer its findings to the district attorney. The case against the Trump Organization will go to trial in October after Weisselberg pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
