Hours after Russia moved to mobilize hundreds of thousands of troops for its assault on Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will give a speech at the UN.

Zelenskyy, who has not left his war-weary nation since Russia invaded in February, will speak after a Ukrainian counteroffensive reclaimed vast swaths of land. Zelenskyy will be the only president to address world leaders from a screen in the General Assembly hall on the second day.

Zelenskyy was able to give pre-taped remarks to the annual gathering of world leaders because the international forum voted last week to allow it. Zelenskky's comments were approved by the world body with 19 abstentions. Seven countries voted against Zelenskyy's request.

The 77th U.N. General Assembly will be held in New York City in the first year after the Covid-19 outbreak.

Zelenskyy's remarks come as Russia's war enters its eighth month, and the Kremlin shows no signs of giving up its goal of restoring the Soviet empire.

The UN chief said that the world is in danger.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced referenda on whether to join Russia in four areas of Ukraine. It is thought that the move is a Kremlin attempt to annex more territory. As soon as this weekend, the votes could occur.

The Russian military was ordered to join the fight. Russia's first military action since World War II followed a series of stunning Ukrainian advances.

The Russian war machine has been defeated by the Ukrainian forces, who have a lot of Western weaponry.

A war chest worth more than 15 billion dollars has been provided by the US. NATO allies took in refugees and trained Ukrainian forces.

Biden wants allied nations to give more support to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy is expected to call for more arms as his nation fights for democratic principles and global order.

Zelenskyy is expected to urge leaders to publicly establish where they stand on the war when he addresses the international forum.

China, the world's second- largest economy, will be called upon to abandon its neutrality.

According to the U.N., Russia's war has killed more than 6,000 people and injured more than 8,000. According to the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, the death toll in Ukraine may be higher.

The European Commission and World Bank estimate that it will cost at least $349 billion to rebuild Ukraine after the war.
