The school confirmed Hill's death early Wednesday.
Mick Cronin said in a statement that Hill was a warm-hearted young man with a great smile who had left us far too soon.
After Hill went missing in Costa Rica, his family learned of his death recently, but did not give any further information.
His family wrote that he had played a part in many people's lives. Many of you have been involved in his life. We want you to give us time to grieve as we try to navigate this devastating time in our lives.
Hill was a great basketball player, but he was also a great person according to Josh Giles.
Giles told the Times that he has been in touch with Hill's family. It's next level devastating to hear something like this.
Hill played parts of three seasons at UCLA before retiring after the 2020-21 season due to anxiety and depression. He left the team in February 2021, but didn't address his status until April, because he didn't want to distract from the Bruins' run to the Final Four.
Hill said in the video that he had to distance himself because he was in a bad place. I did not want them to be restricted from achieving their goals as well.
Three UCLA players, including Hill, were arrested in China in November of last year. He played in 77 games during his career with the Bruins after returning to the program following his suspension for the next season.
