If there is no consensus on who should be at the helm of the grand old party, no one will need the permission of the Gandhis to contest in the presidential polls.

During the break between the first and second leg of the day's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Jairam Ramesh, AICC general secretary in-charge communications, said that anyone is free and welcome to contest in the election if they have the backing of 10PCC delegates.

No one needs the permission of the congress president to file a nomination. The elections will be free from bias. There are no other political parties in the country that hold elections to pick their leader.

According to him, he believes in selection of the party president based on consensus.

According to him, the view of legendary Congress leader K Kamaraj was to "talk to everybody and find a suitable consensus choice" to lead the party. elections are desirable if consensus isn't possible He said that they are not giving up on holding elections.

He doesn't know who will throw their hats in the ring, but he definitely won't. He doesn't know if the Rajasthan Chief Minister will file his nomination or not.

He said that the Congress party has a system in place. According to the plans of Gandhi, if he goes to Delhi on September 23, it will be to meet his mother, who is ill, since September 23 is a rest day.

He hasn't seen his mother in 3 weeks. He is a person. Are you going to meet your mother if she's not well? He will not file the nomination if he goes to Delhi to meet his mother.

Gehlot, one of the possible top candidates for the post and a party choice, is expected to arrive here in the evening to meet Gandhi.

Gehlot's archrival in Rajasthan politics and party leader, Sachin Pilot, was accompanying Gandhi on the first leg of the day's Bharat Jodo Yatra, which stopped at Edappally here close to 10 AM. Gehlot is expected to join the yatra.

Gehlot is considered to be the front runner for the post as he is seen to have the support and confidence of the present government and is likely to be challenged by a G-23 member. The Rajasthan CM has denied that he is a candidate and will try to convince Gandhi to do so.

He told Congress legislators that they will be asked to come to New Delhi if he files his nomination.

The notification for the Congress president's election will be issued on September 22 and the nomination filing will take place from September 25 to 30. The election will take place on October 17 and the result will be out the following day.
