According to multiple reports Tuesday, Canada likely will drop the vaccine requirement for people who enter the country by the end of September, which could affect unvaccinated athletes who travel there for games.

The Canadian government requires a person to have received a second dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before entering. The requirement will be dropped pending a final sign-off from the prime minister.

Unvaccinated baseball players have been placed on the restricted list. According to a March agreement between Major League Baseball and the players' association, they are not paid and don't accrue service time. If the Blue Jays make the playoffs, unvaccinated major leaguers will be allowed to play in Toronto.

In the NBA, teams were told last month that players still need to have either received a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine, or been given a medical clearance from getting one, in order to play in Canada. Once the restrictions are lifted, that won't be necessary.

The majority of NHL players were inoculated last season, with one exception being ToddBertuzzi of the Detroit Red Wings.
