Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said Tuesday that any discussion about the future of the Bedlam rivalry was "childish".
The series will end when Oklahoma leaves for the SEC, according to the athletic directors for both schools.
Oklahoma State does not have any openings to play them. We are full." It can't happen unless significant undertakings are made.
The Cowboys decided not to continue with the series according to Joe Castiglione.
He said that Oklahoma State didn't want to schedule any future football games.
Gundy told reporters at Cowboys practice that they need to stop beating around the bush and call it the way it is.
We all know that bedlam is history. Gundy said that they knew that because OU chose to follow Texas and the money to the SEC. It is okay. We're having childish discussions over something that's happened. I want to say that I have no hard feelings.
It's almost a situation with a husband and a wife, or a girlfriend and a boyfriend, when you know you're wrong, and you try to make them think they're right, when Oklahoma State has no part in this.
Oklahoma has more non conference scheduling flexibility than Oklahoma State, but Castiglione hasn't given up on a future Bedlam series.
He thinks it will come back in the next two decades. The Sooners are talking to Oklahoma State officials about competing in other sports they have in common, but " football is a little different" because there are fewer non conference opportunities and dates to work with than there are in other sports.
The competition between the two schools should continue.
The months of "multibillion-dollar conversations" between Oklahoma and the SEC had no choice but to be brought up by Gundy.
He said that everyone needs to get over it and move on. They still want to bring us into this equation. Let's not make a big deal out of it. We're going to the SEC because we followed Texas and took the money. It's all great. Don't talk about it. We should talk about football.
Gundy has been outspoken about the end of the rivalry. He said in July that the series was winding down.
He said that the future of Bedlam was a year or two away. That's the future that's decided by someone else.
When the Cowboys' schedule was already booked through 2032 or 2033, it's even harder for nonconference games to be scheduled.
Gundy said in July that it would be like playing another conference game if head coaches were persuaded to play another game. A lot is happening. Most fans want to do it. I don't believe it's doable.
If Yormark were to become Big 12 commissioner, Gundy said he wouldn't allow Texas and Oklahoma to attend league meetings.
Gundy said that was a joke. If it's two cell phone companies, I don't want someone from their company in my company.
