The official song of the Space Force was released on Tuesday but received a less than stellar response.
One website devoted to covering America's armed forces said it was not a good idea.
The Donald Trump White House ordered the creation of the Space Force.
Critics were wondering if the new force was necessary. The name for service members and the badges and uniforms that are suspiciously similar to Star Trek attracted controversy and mockery.
Space Force was one of the greatest achievements of Trump's presidency, he told writers Peter Baker and Susan Glasser.
The Army Goes Rolling Along is one of the official songs of the US military.
Gen John "Jay" Raymond, chief of space operations, unveiled the new song at a conference in National Harbor, Maryland.
According to Military.com, Space Force used a 1901 march by John Philip Sousa as a stopgap while the new song was written.
The theme to the British comedy series Monty Python's Flying Circus is based on The Liberty Bell, a Sousa march from 1893.
Sean Nelson is the musician for the US Coast Guard Band. The lyrics were written by a member of the US Air Force Band.
Nelson said that he did what he thought would be the most exciting kind of sounds.
"I wanted to make sure that everything that was in the song would adequately represent all the capabilities that our Space Force is involved with and make sure I didn't mess up on the mission," he said.
The lyrics of Teachenor's song are as follows: "We're the mighty watchful eye, guardians beyond the blue, and the invisible front line."
"We're the Space Force from on high"
The critical response was mixed. Kevin Baron is the executive editor of Defense One. The lyrics aren't good.
I want to make sure that you are not the invisible front line. The CIA is true. You are singing this song. The term fighter is not a word. It's redundant to say 'both'. It's time to strike it.
"'Boldly' stole from Star Trek again." How is it possible to reach into space without going there? Our sky has a limit. Space is what it is called. The sky is coming to an end. There is space to begin with. The lyrics are similar to a bad air force painting.
