The US government may have learned a thing or two about the importance of public health messaging over the past two years.

The gov's initial response to monkeypox was not good. The "pandemic is over" was declared by President Joe Biden on "60 Minutes" over the weekend.

Biden said there was still a problem with covert. The Pandemic is over, but we are still working on it.

Biden disagrees with his own CDC, which still uses the term "pandemic." As the president made his way through the Detroit auto show, the context of the remark was striking. The event, which used to be an annual affair, hadn't taken place in a while, but the cars and the crowds were back, with little to no restrictions and hardly a mask in sight.

"If you notice, no one is wearing masks," the President said while walking through the automotive spectacle. Everyone seems to be in great shape. I believe it is changing. This is a great example of it.

It is indeed true that we are at a different point in the epidemic. According to the general expert consensus, the focus will be on preventing illness rather than stopping the spread of the virus. The Detroit auto show is an example of the stage that we're currently in, and we agree with Biden. We're in a better place with the virus, but that doesn't mean we're completely free of it. More than ten thousand Americans die from chronic bronchitis every month, and the upcoming cold and flu season looms large, a reality that the Biden administration reiterated as recently as this month.

Biden's staff sounds more invested in the issue than he does.

The White House has a coronaviruses that is still killing hundreds of Americans every day. "I think we all have to pull together and do what we can to get our healthcare system through the fall and winter season."

There is a lot of weight on Biden's mistake. We live in a world where news moves fast, soundbites come and go, and truth becomes more abstract. His administration's messaging is as confusing to the Americans as it is dangerous.

Should a variant like Delta or BA.5 emerge, the administration would face some bad press. Biden's "pandemic is over" remark might be taken out of context by anti-vaxers and COVID-deniers, who have long been skeptical of pandemic protocols. According to WaPo, the Biden administration is having trouble securing more funds for COVID resources like tests and vaccines, because of Biden's conflicting remarks, both in political theater and in the court of public opinion. It's easy to manipulate a statement like this. The President is asking for more money while he claims the swine flu is over. A loophole is a favorite of conspiracy theorists.

Caution has waned among Americans who are more in touch with reality. It's rare to see a mask in busy stores and airports where people are breathing from far away. Who is responsible for them? It feels like things are getting back to normal if you don't have a friend or family member who has died from the virus.

As a reality check, the Biden administration isn't the only one warning that we aren't on the same side of the epidemic. The director general of the World Health Organization issued a stark note about where we're at.

The end is in sight but we are not there yet. The finish line is visible to us. It's the best time to stop running.

At the end of the day, our commander in chief didn't say it was okay to lick handrails or anything. To confuse his own White House's messaging when it comes to a topic as delicate, conspiracy-ridden, and life threatening as the Pandemic feels careless. Is it possible for Dr. Demetre Daskalakis to handle all public health announcements?

Biden said "pandemic is over".
