The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a billion dollar series that is set to run for five years. As we hit the halfway point of the first season, it seems that audiences have not been swayed by the show.
The weeks after the show's launch have not brought any relief to The Rings of Power.
By all available metrics, there is no place where fans have rallied to give the show consistently high marks, with scores not having improved noticeably the more episodes that have been rolled out, which you will sometimes see.
Things stand here after four weeks of Ring of Power.
People don't like me comparing Rings of Power to House of the Dragon because of the race and gender-based casting controversies, but the audience scores are much higher than they would be if I did that. The low scores are usually the result of either fans saying the show strays too much from the original world or not thinking the series is very well written or paced.
It is not known if Rings of Power will be able to convert skeptics in the future. We are halfway through the first season and we are starting to bring the characters closer together. The kind of impact that Amazon wanted to see was hard for the show to make. I know a lot of viewers who are excited to watch each week, but I don't think that's the majority view.
It is clear that Amazon is in this for the long haul, and I would expect them to see their ultimate vision for the series through, barring a massive collapse in viewers. They are committed to the project, though it is possible that they will make changes in the future to appeal to the kind of people that are rejecting the series at the moment.
