The last Presidents Cup was played in Australia and Tiger Woods was the captain.
In the past week, it was announced Greg Norman is going to Congress to advocate for LIV Golf, Cameron Smith won another $4 million on the LIV Golf circuit and Max Homa defended his title.
The sport of men's golf is still splintered but will come together at the 14th Presidents Cup.
There is one thing that remains the same. Five of the top 10 players in the world are on Davis Love III's team. In the last 13 meetings, the Americans have won 11 of them. Smith was one of several players to defect to the LIV Golf circuit.
Love wants his team to not be over confident before the event.
Love doesn't think we have to do a lot of motivating things. You don't want to be on a losing team, that's for sure. A team that has a chip on their shoulders is going to be motivated by the fact that they can still compete. It's important that we be careful. These guys aren't going to let it lie down.
This week, the Presidents Cup will take place.
The Presidents Cup is a four-day match-play event. The team with the most points after four days is the winner of the match.
There's a schedule.
There are five matches on Thursday.
There are five four-ball matches on friday.
There are eight matches on Saturday, split between four mornings and four afternoons.
There are twelve singles matches on Sunday.
Each match is worth a single point and both teams get half-points for each tie. If the teams are tied after the singles matches, there is no playoffs.
The American team seems to be the favorite to win the Presidents Cup. Five of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are on the US team. Three players are ranked in the top 25.
The International team has an average world ranking of 48.9.
The U.S. team consists of a number of players.
Hideki Matsuyama is one of the International players.
The International team was decimated by defections. The golf players who were suspended by the tour are not allowed to play in the Presidents Cup.
The highest ranked player on the International team would have been Australia's CAMERON SMITH. They would have been sure things to make the team.
Anirban Lahiri is ineligible for this year's Presidents Cup because he competed in the previous two years.
Lahiri said at last week's LIV Golf event that he would miss it. I think it's close to my heart. I've been on several teams. I was very proud to be a part of them and they were very special weeks for me. I will be supporting the International team next week and I hope our boys play well and put in a great effort. It's unfortunate that things aren't going well, but I wish them the best.
It's sad but I'm going to support the International team. I have a lot of friends there and a lot of professional golf players that I share a lot with during the season. I'm going to support them and hope they beat the Americans.
Will Zalatoris would have been on the U.S. team if he'd won the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He was removed from consideration because of a back injury. The two-time major champion would have been a strong candidate for the captain's choice.
The Americans have a large advantage when it comes to world ranking, but they've also been more successful in the three biggest match-play events: the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup.
Over the past two seasons, he is 11-2 in individual matches, including a victory in the WGC match play tournament in Austin, Texas, in March. He defeated Jon Rahm, the world's top ranked player at the time, in the 2021.
The Austin event was won by Kisner in 2019. He has a very good record in match play. He is 13-2 in his debut as a pro.
The international team has rookies. Matsuyama is the only player who has competed in more than seven match-play matches.
Some of the most difficult and dramatic holes in professional golf can be found at the last three holes of the club.
The longest hole on the course is the 16th, which has a peninsula green with three different hazard areas. Water can be seen in front and down the left side of the green on the par 3 17th. There is a creek running down the left side of the fairway on the par-4 18th. It is the most difficult finishing hole on the tour.
During the Presidents Cup, the holes will be played as Nos. 13, 14 and 15. Each match reached the 15th hole, but 18 of them were decided before the 18th hole.
There is no hiding on those holes. You just have to hit the ball. There isn't any room to leave. Really demanding. It was a great idea to put those three holes in the back nine. I can predict a few of the holes you can win with a par. It's going to be really good.
You can get 4,300 hours of live coverage from 35 PGA Tour tournaments each year. You can access replays and more. You can stream on the internet.
The regular 14 through 18 holes will be moved forward to make way for holes 11 through 15. The traditional holes are 1 through 8, 12 through 18, 10, 11 and 9.
