The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night as quarterback Jalen Hurts was in control on the ground and through the air.
Hurts has been the best player in both games so far. The big question entering the season was if Hurts could take advantage of a loaded roster and turn the Eagles into a legitimate contender. He has been very good so far. Vegas is paying attention. Following Monday's win, Hurts' odds went from 14-1 to 8-1 at the casino. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are the favorites. Hurts has improved his passing. He was very precise with his throws. If he keeps burning it up through the air, defenses are going to have a hard time containing him.
After giving up 35 points to the Lions, the Eagles' defense got off the mat in a big way. What is the differences? The defensive coordinator was more aggressive. He had the corners challenge the gifted group of Minnesota receiver. Slay had two of the three picks.
Early in the second quarter, Hurts found a streaking Quez Watkins for a 53-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a lead. Three defenders looked toward Dallas Goedert while Watkins sprinted down the field.
This was Hurts' third game in a row with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. The rest of the league has three.
Hurts is the second Eagle in the Super Bowl era to have 300 passing yards and two rushing yards in a game. He is the second quarterback to do it on Monday night football.

There is a good reason to not overreact to the first week. Week 2 has a way of leveling off assessments. The Vikings were dominated physically and schematically by the other team. One week after dominating the Green Bay Packers physically and schematically, they lost. The Vikings will have a different type of team this season. It will take some time to dig through the rubble left by Hurts, who completed 26 of 31 passes for 333 yards and accounted for all three Eagles touchdown.
One week after Jefferson had a career high in receiving yards against the Packers, Slay shut him down. Jefferson had one reception for 7 yards on five targets. Slay made a couple of picks on those passes.
