In the race to be Maryland's next governor, Democrat Wes Moore leads Republican Dan Cox by 22 points.
A survey done by Goucher College, The Baltimore Banner and WYPR shows that 53 percent of Marylanders would vote for Moore and 31 percent would vote for Cox. Moore is in a close race with voters who list how favorably they think the candidates are.
Only 28 percent of voters said they could change their minds, and 69 percent said they were set on this candidate.
According to the director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics, Democrats are in a strong position to sweep the statewide contests in Maryland.
Moore is viewed favorably by a majority of state voters, and his mix of progressive and moderate politics meshes with how many Maryland voters think of themselves.
Cox is a representative in Maryland's House of Delegates and Moore is an author. The candidates are vying to become the next governor.
Hogan, a moderate Republican who has called Cox a "QAnon whackjob" and accused him of not being "mentally stable," won't endorse either candidate in the race
Cox repeated former President Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and that buses were going to the U.S. Capitol. He tried to remove Hogan from office. Trump supports the GOP candidate.
Cox was described as far right by 35 percent of Marylanders. Moore is described as far left by 13 percent of people. Moore was either progressive or liberal according to 36 percent of respondents.
The endorsement of Trump by Cox has put him at odds with the Democratic and independent voters in blue Maryland.
Moore had more money in the bank at the end of August than Cox had.
Moore and Cox will debate on October 12th.
There were 1,008 Maryland residents who took part in the poll. There is a margin of error.
