Thousands of people gathered in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Hundreds of thousands of people lined up on Saturday to pay their respects to the Queen, who died at the age of 96.

In the images, crowds can be seen waiting in 'The Queue' which stretched over 10 miles and was lined with famous London landmarks such as the Eye of London.

There is a long line of people waiting to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II at Big Ben.

There is a huge line of mourners visible from space.

The Queen's body and coffin were put in state for a period of time before being taken to St. George's Chapel where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

NASA, other space agencies and leading figures in the space community expressed their grief over the passing of the Queen. We are so fortunate that we were able to host Queen Elizabeth II's visit to NASA Johnson. The officials from NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston wrote on social media that they were joining the planet in honoring her memory.

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II is a sad event. The European Space Agency said that Her Majesty saw the dawn of the space age, meeting astronauts from NeilArmstrong to Britain's own Tim Peake, who gifted her with the Union flag patch from his spacewalk.

NASA pointed out on the day of her passing that Queen Elizabeth II was crowned before the launch of Sputnik. The Apollo 11 astronauts were invited to Buckingham Palace by Queen Elizabeth to celebrate their success on the moon.
