You may be asked to pay an additional fee if you use your points for a redemption stay at Marriott properties. The fees are based on the property, dates and room type.
Users are asked to pay $55 in order to redeem their points for a two-night stay at the Aloft in Oklahoma. The redemption requires 17,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. This isn't a points + cash stay, it's a "Redemption," which means it's not a points + cash stay. Cash should not be required for this booking.
There is a problem at the Royal Orchid in Thailand for a two night stay in October. When they redeem 35,000 points for this stay, users are asked to pay $94.
There is no redemption fee during these dates.
