The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Nissan voluntarily recalled more than 203,000 pickup trucks because of a defect that could cause them to roll away.
According to a report this month from the administration, more than 203,000 Nissan Titan and Frontier vehicles have nine-speed transmissions.
The vehicles were produced between December 13th and August 25th. Stephen O'Neil, a Nissan spokesman, said that the vehicles are in the US, Canada and Mexico.
When a final remedy plan is available, Nissan will send owners a letter with an invitation to repair their vehicles.
insufficient lifting force of the parking pawl is believed to be the cause of the issue. The parking rod and parking wedge were involved in the defect.
There were no accidents or injuries related to the recall. The parking brake should be used by the drivers of these trucks.
The report said that if the parking pawl does not engage, an affected vehicle may move. The risk of injury or crash is increased if the customer does not engage the parking brake.
The company is trying to determine if other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles are affected.
Nissan issued a separate recall of Titan and Frontier models in June due to potential non-engagement of the parking pawl.
The Nissan plant in Mississippi reported in July that a vehicle moved after being put in park. The administration reported that this defect was different from the one in June.
