Tomlin expresses patience with Trubisky and offense (1:11)

Mike is talking about how the offense can be improved. There is a time and a place for this.

PITTSBURGH -- After another anemic performance from the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, coach Mike Tomlin is holding off pressing the panic button on that unit and starting quarterbackMitch Trubisky.

If anyone is sitting here on Monday feeling happy, they are probably incorrect.

For the second week in a row, Trubisky didn't take shots downfield, as he completed 21 of 33 attempts for 168 yards and one touchdown in the 17-14 loss to the New England Pats. Trubisky's average of 5.1 yards per attempt is second worst in the NFL behind only the Dallas Cowboys quarterback who played only one game before hurting his thumb.

Trubisky explained how to get more downfield passing in the offense. Get them the ball when the coverage tells them to. We enjoy our outside match ups. We've got good people who can catch the ball. We have a lot of good talent. We want to attack the entire field and get the ball to our players. We could do a better job.

When asked if Trubisky could be more aggressive in the passing game, he acknowledged that it fell on more than one person.

"I believe he could, and we could," he said.

"We haven't scored enough points here last couple of weeks, but that's a collective, not just the quarterback position, not just the players," said the coach. Everyone is responsible for ringing up the score. We don't want to feel bad. We don't try to quiet the noise. The noise doesn't matter to us. We are working on the things that are within our control to have good days to continue the progression of this group.

The fans at Acrisure Stadium chanted for Kenny Pickett several times during the game as the offense failed to score. Cole was in favor of thestarting quarterback.

Cole thinks there's no doubt withMitch. We are aware of the kind of playerMitch is. He has won in this league. This offense has already been won by him. Everyone in this locker room is in agreement withMitch.
