The Mets are on track to have baseball's highest payroll for the first time since 1989 and are one of six teams that will pay a penalty for overspending.

The Yankees and Dodgers have paid tax on the same amount.

Only once before have six teams paid tax in the same year, with the Dodgers and Yankees joining in 2016 for a total of 74 million dollars.
