Week 3 of the college football season had its moments of absurdity and astonishment. There were upset teams on the road. There were walk-off field goals, hail Mary touchdown, field storms, rain delays, and so much more. There were some great moments from the weekend. The Kansas Jayhawks are the toast of college football because of the way they play. Kent State's misery from 1989 to 2000 was the longest streak of three or fewer wins in the history of the division. In Lance Leipold's first year at Buffalo, the Bulls went to a bowl game for the second year in a row. The program's first double-digit win total in history was achieved by Leipold, who went 37-33 in his time there. Leipold took over a listless Kansas program and went 2-10) in his first year, but he was able to pull off a victory over Texas. The Bulls are 2-0 on the road this year. They're scoring 53 points per game, third nationally, behind quarterback Jalon Daniels, who has thrown for 566 yards and seven touchdown, and also rushed for 237 yards and three more scores. Tua Tagovailoa has had the highest Total QBR in his first three games in the last five years. This year, you get an early start on trash- talking. pic.twitter.com/VWJA2oTBgz The show will see a lot of atmospheres this season. The program and town held a special place in the college football universe after GameDay was taken away from College Station. Given the school was hosting GameDay for the first time, the energy was understandable. At least a couple hundred fans camped out at the GameDay site Friday night to make sure they got a good spot for Saturday's show. they said πΈπΈπΈ pic.twitter.com/N8vzdh1vdw It was a great weekend for signs because of the passion of the fans and the chance for a student to win free tuition if they had the best sign. The winners of the competition were brought onto the stage to be announced, and they all received free tuition. Free tuition for not ONE best sign ... but instead ALL THREE π pic.twitter.com/Vxs318ZCa5 Because App State wasn't going to waste a weekend with GameDay in attendance with a loss, the Mountaineers gave us the best ending to a game we'll see all season. After getting the ball back on their own 47-yard line with 15 seconds left in the game, Chase Brice threw a pass that was tipped and fell into the hands of Christan Horn, who ran it in for the walk-off win. The season between App State and North Carolina has been one of the most entertaining in recent years.
We can't wait to see more from the WVU team.
App State's miracle finish in Boone was in a league of its own.
The gutsiest call of the day was in Manhattan, Kansas, where the Green Wave handed Kansas State its first loss of the year. It was time to punt when the Green Wave faced fourth-and-1 from their own 24 yard line. If they were stopped short, Kansas State would have been able to get the ball with a short field. He put his faith in his offense. The win was decided on a 2-yard run by MichaelPratt. There is a line between genius and jokes.

The coach that bet on his offense was not the only one. After Liberty scored a touchdown with 1:11 left in the game at Wake Forest, Hugh Freeze was faced with a decision: Go for 2 or play for overtime. Liberty's reverse attempt was sniffed out by Wake Forest, which held on for the victory.
The Fighting Irish won their first game of the season Saturday. It won its first time. Cal tried to rally for a game-tying touchdown with under a minute left, but first QB Jack Plummer was overthrown by a target. The fumbled ball was returned for a touchdown because the knee of the man who fumbled was down. Cal'sHail Mary attempt bounced around before falling to the turf.
That close. π³

It seemed like Syracuse's game-winning touchdown pass with seven seconds left to beat the Boilermakers was run-of-the-mill.
The Big 12 can't wait for the move of BYU.
It was easy to imagine a scenario in which the Cougars could play their way into a New Year's Six bowl. It was premature to think that a win against Oregon would change the trajectory of the season, but it was valid when discussing what a win would mean. While it lasted, it was enjoyable.
The rest of the season is nothing more than a barnstorming tour with no real stakes to play for. Next season will be a boon for the program because of this example. The season-long implications of early-season losses will no longer be the same.
The two teams are in the same situation after three games. Each has one win, one loss and one win that doesn't register. They can shift their attention to the conference where they can adjust their expectations. The performance against BYU was a good way to build confidence after the debacle against Georgia.
It's possible that DeBoer is the real deal.
The new coach had a low bar to clear. Fans would like to forget the uninspired schemes and performances from the past few seasons.
Washington's first-year coach, DeBoer, was asked how fast he would improve the unit and who would lead it. It took Washington three games to answer both questions. The first signature win of DeBoer's tenure was recorded against Michigan State on Saturday. A crowd of over 68,000 people watched a functional, creative and fearless offense that piled up 24 first downs and 509 total yards.
The belief in the guys will continue to be put by this win.
USC's Lincoln Riley and Oregon's Dan Lanning got more attention than DeBoer. The people who have followed his career know that he does this. Players blossom under him.
The son of Michael Penix did as a quarterback at Indiana. Penix is back with DeBoer after multiple injuries and a frustrating season. On Saturday, Penix looked like the quarterback who destroyed the Big Ten in 2020. In the first half, he threw for 278 yards, the most by a Washington player since 2013), and he also had four touchdown passes.
Thanks to DeBoer and Penix, Washington is expected to be a surprise contender in the conference this fall.
