J.J. Abrams directing a scene with Finn (John Boyega) as a Stormtrooper

The biggest shift in Star Wars history was when the fans took control. The first time people who grew up loving the films were given a chance to make them was after Disney bought the franchise. George Lucas didn't give people like J.J.Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Jon Favreau a chance. Filmmaker fans like them were steering the galaxy far, far away from the original trilogy.

This seems to be an obvious victory. A Star Wars fan is the perfect person to make a good movie. Since that time, almost everything has been divisive and one of the filmmakers thinks he knows why.

It is easy for smart people to lose their way. Tony Gilroy, one of the architects ofRogue One and creator of Andor, told Rolling Stone that they care too much. They lose some of their natural abilities when they get altitude sickness. It was helpful to be super-clinical and ask why we are dying. If you care about the people who are going to sacrifice themselves, you can tell a better story.

After the first movie in the series, he said that he didn't really like it. After seeing the film's potential, he began to notice it. It's a Star Wars show, unlike all of the other Star Wars shows. One who isn't beholden to the Force, Jedi, Sith, lightsabers, or previous films or books.

Is the person right here? Do filmmakers care too much about their work? They definitely do care. It's obvious. Is that passion clouding their judgement? It is difficult to figure that out. The structure of The Force Awakens is so similar to A New Hope that it could either be positive or negative. Is he just doing what he knows works? Is he too scared to make a mistake with the formula? Johnson messed with the formula for The Last Jedi and it didn't get a lot of love. Most people like the idea of Dave Filoni and legacy characters being used in original stories. He is being too beholden to those characters and has shrunk the universe.

Put yourself in the shoes of these filmmakers. Kathleen Kennedy is the president of Lucasfilm. Are you going to try something new? Do you believe that something will be easy to do? What makes Star Wars work? If you succeed, you can expect great things. It will be the same if you fail. Both will happen at the same time because Star Wars fans are vastly different. It is a very unique situation that is both frightening and pleasant to behold.

The other person seems to ignore all of that. He wants to bring a pure character and story basis to the franchise. Does that mean his projects miss some of the magic of Star Wars? It won't take long to find out. You can see more of Andor's interview at Rolling Stone.

The first three episodes of Andor will be available on Disney+.
