The heads of the world's major space agencies presented their big plans for the coming years at a major congress in Paris.

At the International Astronautical Congress in Paris, officials from NASA, the European Space Agency, CSA, JAXA, and ISRO spoke.

The first major milestone is moving quickly. "This weekend, at 15,000 miles an hour, a spacecraft is going to ram a small asteroid that revolves around a larger asteroid," Bill Nelson said. We're going to see if we can move that trajectory so that we can find the killer asteroids by the time we get to Earth.

The DART asteroid mission is NASA's first planetary defense vehicle.

The heads of agencies were absent from the event. The vice administrator of the China National Space Administration dropped out of the panel because of a scheduling conflict. The country's plans for the moon are expected to be updated later during the congress.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia is not present at IAC. According to the Russian news agency, its delegates were given visas. Nelson stated that the United States and Russia are still cooperating in space despite the condemnation of the invasion. They are partners in the space station program.

Nelson said that despite the political troubles on terra firma you still see that professional relationship working in the civilian space arena.

The current economic and political situation makes it difficult for the European Space Agency to get the funding it needs for the upcoming ministerial meeting.
