The Eastern Michigan basketball player was arrested Sunday night and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and altering ID marks on a weapon.

The man was pulled over in Michigan after failing to stop at an intersection. He was arrested after a gun was found during a traffic stop.

The former Memphis player returned to his hometown in Michigan after transferring to Eastern Michigan.

He was a highly recruited recruit. He was listed as the top player in any class when he was a sophomore.

He was the No. 5 overall player in the 2020 class.

During his first season at Memphis, injuries slowed him down and he averaged just 9.7 points. The forward transferred to the Mid-American Conference in order to reestablish himself as a star.

According to Jonathan Givony, a second-round pick in the first 2023 mock draft, Bates is still an NBA draft prospect.
