3-year-old found at home locked inside cage that was filled with bugs, Ohio cops say

The home where the toddlers were found was found to be in a poor state of disrepair.

The parents of Franklin "TJ" Varney and Megan Smith were the subject of a sexual assault investigation by detectives from the sheriff's office.

The child was locked inside a cage that was secured with zip ties. The sheriff said it was filled with bugs, dirty bedding and a cup of spoiled milk.

A toddler was found with a meth pipe in the home, according to the sheriff's office.

The toddler is in the care of his grandmother. She was taken into custody and charged with endangering children.

Varney and Smith are wanted on child endangering warrants. The sheriff did not give any information about the investigation.

The chief deputy encouraged Mr. Varney and Ms. Smith to turn themselves in. The Hocking County Sheriff's Office will use every available resource to bring these two to justice if they choose to run away from their responsibilities.

The toddlers were put in emergency foster care.

The county is located in southeast Ohio.
