A new video from iFixit shows a big improvement in repairability. In the video, you can see how easy it is to lift the rear glass panel using only a heating mat, a suction handle, and an opening pick.

The process of securing the back glass is described by iFixit in a post on its website. iFixit says it is easier to take off the back panel if you remove the screws that hold it in place.

Replacing the glass back of the iPhone 8 isn't easy or cheap.

If you have AppleCare Plus, the price of repairing the glass backing on the iPhone 12 and 13 was $29 last year. The repair job could cost up to $600 without it. Apple made it impossible for the average person to replace the back glass on their own, even if they wanted to.

Considering the strides Apple has made when it comes to repairs, it is odd that it has been quiet about this update. The company launched its self-repair service earlier this year, providing users with the parts they need to fix the Apple products. It is not clear when Apple will expand its self-repair program to include the iPhone 14, but it should make it cheaper to repair the back glass. Even though the battery in the iPhone 14 is the same as the one in the previous generation, it costs $30 more to repair it.

iFixit says that Apple went out of its way to make repairing the phone easier. It gave the iPhone 14 a repairability score of seven out of 10, making it the highest repairability score of the year.
