49ers HC Shanahan Apologized to Injured Trey Lance: 'You Were Playing Your Ass Off'

As Lance was being carted off the field during the 49ers' win over the Seattle Seahawks, Kyle Shanahan couldn't do anything.

I would like to apologize. Peter King of NBC Sports said that the man said that he was playing his ass off.

Lance broke his ankle on a designed run in the first quarter of the 49ers' 27-7 victory over the Seahawks and will miss the rest of the season.

Lance, the 49ers' first-round pick in 2021, had a sad end to the season.

The 49ers kicked a field goal on their first possession and were in the middle of a drive when Lance went down. Jimmy Garoppolo kicked a second field goal after replacing Lance.

Garoppolo passed for 154 yards and a touchdown and will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

The starting quarterback has been injured four times in six years. You just deal with it, right? You need to. The team really likes him. These guys are going to win games regardless of the obstacles.

This league doesn't wait for anyone and we will be somber Monday morning. What has happened here is unbelievable. Two years have passed since we had a quarterback injury. This is the first time in a long time that we have had a good Plan B. I'm not comparing these guys to Joe and Steve, but I'm talking about going into games now knowing we have a chance.

After the 49ers handed the keys to the offense to Lance, Garoppolo thought he'd be playing football somewhere else. He will have to save the season amid the uncertainty of the young quarterback.
