Early analysis shows that Apple's new phone won't set any sales records. The 14 Plus is behind the Mini when it comes to sales. It was a commercial hit for the tech giant, but it didn't happen.

On launch day, the iPhones 14 and 14 Plus will be in stock. The pre-order results for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are worse than the pre-order results for the iPhone 13 mini.

The problem appears to be straightforward. The price of the iPhone 14 Plus is far too high in the U.K.

Let's discuss that price. The price of the iPhone 14 Plus in the United Kingdom is 950 British pounds. The amount I considered pre-ordering was ridiculous. I stopped and thought about the value of the purchase when I saw the price of the phone.

I have already crossed the financial rubicon if I spend close to 1,000 pounds on an Apple device. In the U.S., there's just $100 difference between the $899 iPhone 14 Plus and the $999 iPhone 14 Pro.

I would like to get a new processor, always-on display, and Dynamic Island with the new iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, but I can't because it's too much for me. Nothing according to the figures. The most popular iPhone model was the Pro Max, even though it was the most expensive.

There is a circular economy to consider when making purchase decisions. I used to buy my tech from places like MusicMagpie. If I wanted the cheapest big-screen phone, the 14 Plus wouldn't be in the running. Who is the newest version of the phone?

Despite its failure, it had a good answer to the question. The iPhone Mini slogan proclaims that it's for those who want a small Apple device. There is no obvious audience for the iPhone 14 Plus.

Do you want to spend a lot of money on an Apple product? If the answer is yes, why don't you get the phone? The same can be asked of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, but you have to spend 850 pounds to get it. You are close to 1,000 pounds when it comes to the 14 plus. One could say in for a penny, in for a pound.

A deliberately compromised experience?

It makes sense to use the iPhone 14 Plus. Many people use their phones as their sole computing device, and a larger phone is a bigger canvas for reading books, watching movies, typing up notes, and so on. At the same time, the iPhone 14 Plus offers a series of compromises to lower the asking price that can cause one to take a break from buying the phone.

You can get one for 250 pounds more if you choose to. There is a new A16 processor for 25 pounds. The option is out of reach for 250 pounds more. You know what the picture looks like.

The compromises one swallows at shy of 900 and the ones swallowed at shy of 1000 are different, even though the same issue exists for the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. It is a similar deal in the U.S., so why not give Apple another $100?

It is worth noting that the audience for iPhone pre-orders is exactly the same audience that would be making these kinds of calculations. After the release of the iPhone 14 Plus, it is possible that it will do better in the eyes of a general audience who just wants the cheapest, biggest, newest iPhone they can buy. It's possible that Apple is banking on this.
